Monafossen waterfall

If weather is good enough to go to mountains, take road trip to Monaforssen. It is a most favorite waterfall in Rogaland within one hour driving from Stavanger. Just take some food, good mountain shoes and hop into the car.

Located in beautiful area of Gjesdal, Monafossen is highest waterfall in Rogaland. Waters flow of river Mon fall from 92 meters height with so incredible power! It create a lot of water drops in air and even rainbow. Drive to Algard from Stavanger on the E39. Just after Algard turn left onto the RV45 towards to Sirdal. Turn left at Gjile to Frafjord tunnel and drive to Monafossen. RV45 has a lot of very spectaculars views. Almost every turn of the mountain road will show you one more nice view.

Hike from parking place to waterfall is about 30 minutes, but it is quite steep. The path goes over lots of rock and boulders and there are several places with staircases and chains to hold on to.

If you so impressed and want to see even more, you can follow up the T - signs and continue your trip. You will have a chance to see how the water polish the rock’s monolith in may be hundred thousand years. Then you can continue by nice Fidjadalen valley to old restored farm where people lived up to 1915. Here you will find place for picnic and roof if weather is not a good. This trip will take 30 minutes more on one way.

After that you can continue from Månavatnet continues path through Fidjadalen valley Fed and Fidjastølen before coming to Blåfjellenden, where Stavanger Trekking Association has accommodation.

Please note: Road RV45 is closed now unitl 18th of September 2017. Use RV503 instead from Vikeso. The trip will be about 40 minutes longer one way. It was some narrow road and old tunnel just before Dirdal. After repairing, new road will be much better.
